How to Easily Start a Blog for your Business

Start a Business Blog

I’ve previously mentioned why a wholesale company should start a blog, so I figured I should also do a post on How to start a blog. I’ll go over the very basics of starting a blog that will have you posting in no time. If enough people ask for more details I’ll do more posts on blogging in the future, but for now, let’s get a blog started!

  • First things first, sit down and think about what your blog will be about. Obviously it’ll be about your business, but what will you post, what won’t you post, how will you involve your current customers, how will you attract new customers, and so on. Don’t get too hung up on what you’ll be posting though as it’s more important to just get started! Your plans regarding your business blog will evolve as you start posting. You’ll begin to see what works and what doesn’t. Have a look at what some of your competitors are doing with their blogs.
  • Choosing a blogging platform is pretty easy as WordPress is the most used, most useful, most supported, and one of the easiest to use platforms around and it has been for some time now. Oh and it’s FREE!
  • Then choose a domain name. If you already have a company website you may want to just use your current domain and web host, but for this post I’ll assume that you’re starting from scratch. So if you’re based in the United States or you have an international customer base I would suggest you choose Companyname.com. If you’re country focused and based in Australia for example, I would try to get your CompanyName.com.au. You may have to get creative if your company name uses generic words though as that domain may already be taken. You’ll have to decide whether it’s worth trying to purchase it or just go with a domain name like your CompanyNameBlog.com or something similar.
  • Ok, so let’s get started with a web host. The web host basically stores your website and puts it online for the world to see. So it’s important that they’re reliable as if they’re not you lose customers and you’ll lose hair as you’ll go nuts pulling it out! A web host will also deal with your email and related issues. They’re also there to help if you have technical issues, so you’ll also need a webhost with a responsive and helpful help desk. For getting started with your new business blog I recommend Blue Host as they’re very reasonably priced, they’re reliable, have an excellent helpdesk, and they make it very easy to start a WordPress blog. Actually it’s just a one-click process to install WordPress. And they’ll pay for your domain name registration!

Host 6 Domains on 1 Account
  • After you have chosen your web host and domain name you’ll just follow the hosting company’s instructions (which in the case of BlueHost is a one-click process) you’ll be online and ready to post. Start with an introductory post to let your customers know who you are and what you’ll be doing with your shiny new blog. You’re now an online blogger, you’re no longer the blogging virgin you were yesterday! But don’t get too excited as this is just the beginning.

In future posts I’ll look at how to customize your new WordPress blog and maybe look at a few plug-ins that are worth installing. Each webhost is different so you’ll have to go through their particular instructions. BlueHost caters to WordPress users so they make it as easy as possible to get started with their One-Click installation. Check them out Here. They have plans starting from $4.95 per month and includes a free domain name.

So let me know if you want me to go more in depth with the blogging guides.
